FIRST® Robotics Competition (FRC) is one of the largest international High School STEM programs. Each year, students are given just six weeks to design, build, and program a unique robot to play a brand-new game. The challenge is as close to real-world engineering as it gets: tight deadlines, complex problems, and teamwork under pressure.
FRC is more than just robots; it’s a launchpad for future innovators. Students gain hands-on experience with mechanical design, programming, electronics, and CAD while learning project management, leadership, and communication skills. These are the exact skills engineers use every day in industry, which means students graduate with a head start on college and careers.
FRC compliments the Galena STEM Signature Academy by turning classroom concepts into real applications. Students see math, physics, and computer science come alive as they work with mentors from local businesses and universities. This mentorship and teamwork build confidence, creativity, and a passion for problem-solving that carries far beyond high school.
FRC also opens doors to scholarships, internships, and networking opportunities with major engineering companies and universities worldwide. Many FIRST alumni pursue degrees in engineering, computer science, and other STEM fields — and often credit FRC as the reason they chose their career path.
